#CrimeStats: The worst crimes in Kempton Park

Hijackings, robbery and residential robberies are still rife in Kempton Park, according to the latest crime statistics released this week. The statistics were for the period from April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2018.

While many crimes decreased for this period, these three crimes escalated.

Statistics for Kempton Park’s three precincts, Kempton Park, Norkem Park and Sebenza Police Stations, for the most common crimes, were:

Kempton Park SAPS

Murder: down 12% from 25 cases to 22 cases

Attempted murder: up 4.3% from 46 cases to 48 cases

Robbery: down 8.3% from 362 cases to 332 cases

Robbery with aggravating circumstances: up 6.7% from 834 cases to 890 cases

Hijacking: up 15.1% from 146 cases to 168 cases

Residential robberies: down 11.9% from 67 cases to 59 cases

Non-residential robberies: down 3.9% from 129 cases to 124 cases

Truck hijackings: down 5.3% from 38 cases to 36 cases

Residential burglary: down 2.3% from 512 cases to 500 cases

Non-residential burglary: down 2.7% from 404 cases to 393 cases

Car theft: down 26.2% from 405 cases to 299 cases

Norkem Park SAPS

Murder: down 18.2% from 11 cases to 9 cases

Attempted murder: up 25% from 16 cases to 20 cases

Robbery: down 27.4% from 124 cases to 90 cases

Robbery with aggravating circumstances: up 0.6% from 470 cases to 473 cases

Hijacking: down 25% from 136 cases to 102 cases

Residential robbery: up 22.1% from 113 cases to 138 cases

Non-residential robbery: down 17.1% from 41 cases to 34 cases

Truck hijackings: three cases from none

Residential burglary: down 19% from 1 065 cases to 863 cases

Non-residential burglary: down 1.8% from 57 cases to 56 cases

Car theft: down 9.8% from 224 cases to 202 cases

Sebenza SAPS

Murder: four cases from none

Attempted murder: down 20% from 9 cases to 8 cases

Robbery: down 80% from 10 cases to 2 cases

Robbery with aggravating circumstances: up 18.8% from 154 cases to 183 cases

Hijacking: up 40.6% from 32 cases to 45 cases

Residential robbery: up 5% from 20 cases to 21 cases

Non-residential robbery: up 36.1% from 36 cases to 49 cases

Truck hijackings: up 14.3% from 7 cases to 8 cases

Residential burglary: up 10.5% from 86 cases to 95 cases

Non-residential burglary: up 22% from 118 cases to 144 cases

Car theft: down 27.1% from 107 cases to 78 cases
