The placements for 2019 admissions for Grade One and Eight learners will be made available on August 3.
“All parents will receive an SMS, advising them on the outcome of their applications,” said Steve Mabona, spokesperson for Gauteng Department of Education.
“The department received an unprecedented number of applications for Grades One and Eight. A total of 569 302 applications were received by the end of the application period and more time is required to finalise the waiting lists with the schools and districts.”
Parents are urged to accept offers of placement within seven working days of receipt of the offer. “Failure to respond will result in the forfeiture of the offer to the next applicant on the school’s waiting list,” said Mabona.
“Space availability is the key determinant of learners to be placed in a school and placement will be conducted on a first-come-first-served basis. Parents that failed to submit the required documents to the schools during the allocated timeframe (April 16 to June 5), are requested to submit documents at district offices from September 10 to 14.”
These applicants and all those who could not be placed at schools due to capacity will be placed by districts. The department plans to place all Grade One and Eight learners for the 2019 academic year by the end of October.
“Once more the department is grateful for the co-operation and support received from parents,” said Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng education MEC.
“Parents can visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to check the status of their application. Alternatively, they can contact our call centre on 0800 000 789 or visit the nearest district office or public schools for any admission related matters,” concluded Mabona.
Parents can also contact the call centre if they have lost their login credentials (username and password).
