A tip-off to the metro police lead to the discovery of 10kg of dagga hidden in a table-top at a courier company in Isando on Tuesday.

The drugs were found in one of five table-tops destined for Portugal.

Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson, said EMPD Tokoza precinct officers acted on information about a dodgy consignment to be conveyed by couriers to Portugal.

“On investigation, officers uncovered 20 compressed bricks of dagga, each weighing 500g. All five tabletops and the dagga were booked in at Kempton Park Police Station. The discovery was made around 2pm,” Kgasago added.

He said the courier company warehouse in Isando smelled a rat when the furniture was under-invoiced and their efforts to get hold of the client before they could approve the transportation of the furniture came to naught.Numerous calls over several days were in vain.

When metro police officers gave them the information they had received, the courier company released the suspicious cargo to the officers as the prospective client had suddenly disappeared into thin air.
