Fidelity ADT have offered a R100 000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the armed men who killed two security officers during an attempted cash-in-transit heist near the M54 in Modderfontein on January 2.

Company CEO Wahl Bartmann condemned the incident in which an armed gang attacked a back-up vehicle and fatally shot two officers, aged 29 and 34.

One officer died on the scene while his partner died in hospital.

Bartmann said Fidelity is working closely with the police to find leads to achieve justice for the slain officers. “We are really sad to lose two such excellent officers,” he said.

“The killings were senseless and cannot be condoned. Our sincere condolences go to the families of both officers.”

Bartmann said two guards usually follow the company’s cash-in-transit vans as extra security to help secure the perimeters where money is collected or delivered.

“They bombed the truck but could not gain access to the cash,” Bartmann added.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said judging by the spent cartridges found at the scene, the robbers were armed with heavy assault rifles.

Dennis George, general secretary of the Federation of Unions of South Africa, joined in condemning the killings and urged the public to assist the police with their investigation.

Anyone with information about the suspects is urged to send the information to [email protected] or call the crime hotline 0800 023 456.
