Specialised refrigerator units stolen in Chloorkop

Robbers made off with loads of refrigerator units from Zero Appliances

SEBENZA SAPS is investigating a case of business robbery after Zero Appliances in Chloorkop was robbed during the night of November 5.

The robbers, whom some of them are believed to be security guards at the company, made off with an undisclosed number of refrigerator units. The company says this will lead to a huge financial loss.

Manager of the IT department Jacques Sliep said a guard who was on duty was tied up.

“They knew where the cameras were and where they should not walk and they also knew they couldn’t cut gate locks as that would activate the alarms.

“What they have done is use another side entrance to access the premises by cutting the palisade fence. Within ten minutes, the guard managed to untie himself and alerted us,” Sliep said.

Sliep also said the robbers took the company’s CCTV footage storage box.

“The majority of the units stolen are actually specialised medical refrigerators. They are used as vaccine storage units manufactured to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) specifications for areas that have regular power outages. The units cannot be used for domestic purposes,” Sliep added.

Spokesperson Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said the suspects were still at large. “A case of business robbery has been opened and we are running investigations,” she said.
