KEMPTON Park SAPS is investigating a case of business robbery, after three men made off with a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) of Anita Building Construction on Long Street on Wednesday night, after holding the security guard at gunpoint.

The officer, whose identity is being withheld for safety reasons, told EXPRESS it was just before 7pm when three men ambushed him. He said he was tied up and laid on the ground. One of the men unlocked the gate with keys he took from him and drove off with the TLB.

He said the robbers also took his cell phone.

“I was walking to my shelter to get a lighter for a smoke. When I turned the corner, my eyes met with those of the men as they approached from an alley. Suddenly, one of the men pulled out a gun and pointed it at me. The other two pinned me down to tie me up.

“As I was on the ground, I heard the heavy engine starting,” he said. He said they left him on the ground as they drove out with the machine.

“It took one of the guys a minute to start the TLB. They were very quick and seemed to know how it worked.”

The victim said he did not know how they managed to start it, as the keys were not kept on the premises.

“They left me on the ground still in bounds. I managed to roll outside and started screaming. A man happened to walk past the gate. He entered the yard and untied me. I ran to the police station to report the case,” he added.
