Burglar returns wearing stolen shoes

THE suspect arrested wearing a pair of shoes he stole two weeks ago.

A burglar, who returned to a Birch Acres home he broke into two weeks earlier, got more than he bargained for on Friday.

Wearing a pair of shoes he stole from the house on September 16, he was not so lucky this time and was caught by the community.

According to the homeowner, they had a break-in on September 16 around 11am where a TV, laptop and her brother’s shoes were stolen.

“Today [September 29] my brother was in the laundry room around 11.30am when he spotted a man peeping through our windows. He shouted to us to be alert that someone was trying to break in,” the woman said.

“The suspect jumped over the palisade and escaped. As we got out of the yard we spotted him walking down Piet-my-vrou Street. He kept looking back at us, smiling. I called my husband, who just happened to be on Pongolarivier Drive and he gave chase with his car and returned home with the suspect.

“People driving past took action and upon questioning him while we waited for the police, we discovered he may be the one who broke in two weeks ago as he was wearing the very shoes that were stolen.

“This was confirmed by the shoe size as we still have the box. We are in danger here as we live right across an open field which people from Vusimuzi use it as a shortcut,” the victim said.

Spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS Capt Lesibana Molokomme confirmed the arrest.

Molokomme said they also arrested six other suspects over the weekend.

On Thursday last week, Norkem Park SAPS held a liquor and second-hand goods operation and managed to close down a pawn shop on Matumi Street in Birchleigh.

The owner was issued with a fine of R1 000 for operating without a licence.

A liquor outlet on Avral Street in Birchleigh North was also closed down and a fine of R1 500 was issued to the owner.
