Barnstormers Model Flying Club will hosting three events on Sunday, all three taking place at the same time.

Gauteng Control-Line Champs

A control line is an aircraft which is either powered by an electric or nitro motor. It does not fly by radio but rather by strings.

The pilot stands in the centre of a circular runway and does maneuvers by twisting his wrist up or down.

This sport is extremely challenging and the maneuvers are even more so.

Gauteng FPV Racing Regionals round 3

FPV (first person view) is the latest and greatest way to operate your flying machine. The aircraft are small four-rotor copters with camera technology built in.

These very fast craft are flown by pilots wearing goggles on the sideline of the track. The pilots will fly a difficult course through obstacles and pylons.

Fun-Fly qualifiers round 3

The third event will be flown with light weight aerobatic aircraft on the main runway. Pilots who attend will fly pre-selected maneuvers.

All pilots will fly the same course. Some of the skills required to fly these challenging competitions are obtained over years of experience and practice.

All three disciplines are extremely satisfying to watch.

The event is open to the public and there is no entrance fee. Bring your braai meat and chairs and come enjoy the day.

The club is situated on the R25 towards Bapsfontein. For further details, call Gareth Randall on 082 771 9452.
