TWO suspected burglars’ run from the long arm of the law was short-lived when they were apprehended after a tyre of their getaway car burst on Allandale Road on Thursday afternoon.

Two more suspects managed to escape.

The drama unfolded on Klapper Street in Edleen when the four men got involved in a shootout with officers of MML Security.

According to MML, its control room received a panic activation at 1.41pm from a client on Klapper Street, Edleen. The client informed the controller there was a white car with four men breaking into a house across the road.

Senior reaction officer Robert Thoms and reaction officers Johan Claassens and Rudi Botes were dispatched to the address. On arrival the officers saw the white

Mercedes Benz and approached with caution.

It was at that point that the officers were noticed by the suspects and things started taking a turn for the worse. A shootout followed between the suspects and the reaction officers before the men sped off.

After a long chase from Edleen to Allandale Road the reaction officers could no longer keep up with the reckless driving of the fleeing driver and decided it was safer to stop the pursuit.

According to MML a lookout for the vehicle was given to the police and metro police.

One of the vehicle’s tyres then burst and the driver lost control of it on Allandale Road. Two of the men were apprehended by the police.

Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, said the four men tried to flee when the car came to a halt in a veld next to Allandale Road.

“A motorist, who saw the suspects, pointed them out to officers who had stopped at the scene. The officers managed to arrest two suspects, aged 39 and 41,” Molokomme added.

Both suspects will be charged for attempted housebreaking.
