Out of control Chevy ‘sparks’ through shopping centre’s perimeter wall

THE small Spark took out five sections of palisade fencing and its concrete pillars.

THE driver of a blue Chevrolet Spark took out several meters of a palisade fence with concrete pillars at Glen Acres Shopping Centre on Saturday evening.

He apparently lost control of the vehicle driving up Dann Road towards Monument Road some time between 8pm and 8.30pm.

The incident happened in front of Jack’s Paint.

According to businesses owners at the centre they only heard a loud bang and then saw the aftermath of the accident.

“When we went outside to see what the bang was, we saw the little blue car and a man getting out of it with no scratches. He must have lost control of his vehicle and went straight through the wall. He is a very lucky man,” said a cashier at an internet lounge.

The same shopping centre also made headlines last month when the getaway car of two fleeing robbers got stuck on a wall at the service station. Having failed to escape, their victim caught up with them and got involved in a scuffle with one of the suspects – giving the man a “snotklap”.

The whole incident was filmed by a bystander.

NB: Clive Gould, Glen Acres Superspar and Shopping Centre general manager, pointed out the following to Express since the article had been published:

“Your article states that the accident happened in our centre, which is incorrect. The accident actually happened at the Glen Ridge Shopping Centre (41 Dann Road). We do not own that property.”
