Eskom to use long weekend to catch up

Eskom staff will use the coming long weekend to repair broken generating units to make sure there is no backlog this winter.

Eskom spokesman, Khulu Phasiwe, said the risk of load shedding was minimal because there was a lower demand for electricity over weekends.

“There are two primary reasons for load-shedding at the moment – colder weather and pre-emptive maintenance,” said Phasiwe.

Eskom this morning said the risk of load shedding this evening was again high.
