77-year-old completes 100 runs with 99 wins

CHARLES Edwards (77) of Van Riebeeck Park completed his 100th parkrun earlier this month.

ONE hundred runs in three years with 99 wins.

This is the major feat of Charles Edwards (77) of Van Riebeeck Park.

Born on August 22, 1939, in Bloemfontein, Charles was a dedicated sportsman throughout his school career at Grey College.

After school, he continued this trend and remained involved in various sporting codes. He was a rugby referee for several clubs, including BFX and Gauteng.

He tackled the Comrades Marathon a few times and was a member of Kempton Park Running Club for many years.

When the parkrun was initiated in Modderfontein in May 2014, he was eager to join and saw it as a new adventure and challenge.

True to his character, he continued running and on April 8 ran his 100th parkrun in Modderfontein, winning an incredible 99 runs.
