Armed robber wounded in shootout with police in Sebenza

THE hands of the three suspects held in the Sebenza SAPS police cells.

THREE suspects were arrested and one wounded after they attempted to rob a business in Sebenza on Tuesday morning.

The Provincial Tracking Team received an anonymous tip on Monday that a robbery was going to take place at the business the following day and surrounded the whole area with the help of Sebenza SAPS.

According to Sebenza spokesperson, Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso,  the business targeted kept cash on sight.

The tracking team spotted a white panel van with the four suspects going into the premises and when they approached the suspects, one of them opened fire..

Police returned fire and one suspect was wounded in the upper body. He was taken to Tembisa Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

“After we have arrested the suspects we discovered two of them are out on parole and the other one has a case of assault against him. They are between the ages of 31 and 57 and is from Alexandra,” said Tsotsotso.

The suspects were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted business robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

They will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday or Thursday.

Other successes for Sebenza SAPS over the weekend includes 21 arrests for drunk driving, one arrest for rape and sexual assault, six arrests for theft and five arrests for possession of dagga.
