He is currently in police custody alongside his girlfriend, Chantelle Justine Minnott (31), for the murder of Stassen’s 78-year-old mother, Annatjie, on November 16.

The couple made a brief appearance on Wednesday morning in front of regional magistrate, E Mhlari.

During their previous appearance, Minnottt was denied bail and Stassen abandoned his application due to not having a residence he could stay at while the trial continued.

He will now re-apply for bail on Monday.

The accused’s lawyer, AJ Masiye, confirmed that Stassen had abandoned his bail application and would like to re-apply.

The case was then postponed to Monday and referred back to magistrate P Manyathi’s courtroom where both the accused had originally applied for bail.

The matter will be heard again on January 25 for Stassen’s re-application. Both accused remain in custody.
